Holistic Education
The YMCA Education experience is diverse, exciting, comprehensive and challenging.
Apart from academic studies, every student is expected to foster their spiritual and social growth and to cultivate responsibility through work, outreach and service programmes.
To help our freshmen in their transition to life as a YMCA School student, an orientation programme will be held in the first week of the Academic Year in January.
This orientation programme provides all information regarding our services as we tour the facilities that make YMCA School a conducive environment for effective learning. Activities are incorporated into the orientation programme to create a fun and interesting atmosphere. We know that the one thing all new students can look forward to is the orientation programme where fun and interaction take place!

Every student is encouraged to participate in the Singapore National Youth Achievement Award (NYAA) Scheme within the school’s co-curricular activities (CCA) and YMCA programmes.
The aim of the NYAA Scheme is to encourage young people between the ages of 14 and 25 years to develop personal qualities of self-reliance, perseverance and a sense of responsibility to themselves, to society and to the nation.
There are three levels of the Award – Bronze, Silver and Gold, where the young person is required to complete projects in the following areas:
- Service
- Adventurous Journey
- Skills
- Physical Recreation
A typical student will have a sport/game, and community service involvement (CIP).
Throughout the academic year, the student shall work voluntarily within the YMCA to cultivate a respect for the value of labour.
The school of the YMCA Education Centre is an authorised NYAA operating authority.
At the heart of YMCA Education experience is teaching based on Christian values.
All students of the YMCA Education Centre attend weekly school assembly and chapel service to inculcate sound moral values and build strength of character in an ever-changing modern world.
Universally accepted Christian values of humility, compassion, caring, respect, integrity, responsibility, and more, are introduced in a delivery mode that is both refreshing and relevant to our students to help instill self-awareness.
YMCA is proud to have very established Community Service Programmes that specializes in volunteer work for the underprivileged – ranging from troubled youths, the physically or mentally challenged, to the elderly.
The wide range of programmes welcomes both experienced and less experienced volunteers. Programmes are also designed to ensure fun and learning for our volunteers so all parties benefit from the experience.
Volunteer Programmes are run regularly and Students of YMCA Education Centre are encouraged to participate actively in these humanitarian efforts as part of our objective to instill a sense of selflessness and awareness of the community, region and world at large.
School students are encouraged to participate in activities that develop their physical fitness, artistic potential and well-being.
YMCA offers fitness & dance courses, performing arts productions, and outdoor & adventure programmes. YMCA also develops social awareness and encourages youth volunteerism. Our Arts Education Programme has engaged 300,000 students over the past nine years. YMCA offers treks, ski, snowboard and mountain bike trips.
