National Youth Achievement Award

Every student shall participate in the Singapore National Youth Achievement Award (NYAA) Scheme within the school’s co-curricular activities (CCA) and Association’s programmes.

The aim of the NYAA Scheme is to encourage young people between the ages of 14 and 25 years to develop personal qualities of self-reliance, perseverance and a sense of responsibility to themselves, to society and to the nation.

The criteria for an award are those of self-improvement and effort. The participant is judged on personal achievement measured against original circumstances and potential capabilities. This allows for the less able and disadvantaged to participate on an equal opportunity basis.

There are three levels of the Award – Bronze, Silver and Gold, where the young person is required to complete projects in the following areas:

  • Service
  • Adventurous Journey
  • Skills
  • Physical Recreation

A typical student will have a sport/game, uniformed group participation and a community service involvement (CIP).

Throughout the academic year, the student shall work voluntarily within the Association to cultivate a respect for the value of labour.

The YMCA School is an authorised NYAA operating authority.
