The YMCA Education Centre (YEC) has come a long way since it started in 1913 running Commercial classes such as Shorthand, Book-keeping, Typewriting and Accountancy. Today, the YEC runs a school offering academic programmes preparing students for the GCE’O’ level. The school also offers Preparatory Courses in English and Mathematics to prepare students for the AEIS (Admissions Exercise for International Students) test to study in the local government schools. The YEC also runs tertiary courses, partnering Strathclyde Business School and Australian Maritime College.

I am delighted to announce that the YEC was awarded the EduTrust for 4 years from 16 December 2011 to 15 December 2015. This award by the Council for Private Education is testimony of the good standard of processes, teaching strategies and programmes in both the school and tertiary.

We have a team of qualified teachers and lecturers who are committed to provide quality education. Students need 21st century skills to be successful today. These competencies include critical and creative thinking, civic literacy, cross-cultural skills and information and communication skills. Emphasis is placed on these competencies through the academic curriculum and co-curricular activities through dedicated lessons and teachable moments. We help our students to develop their potential, to achieve their personal best, to be confident persons, self-directed learners, active contributors and concerned citizens. In addition, there is a dedicated counsellor at the YMCA who provides pastoral care and guidance to students. Our wholesome quality education aims to develop Body, Mind and Spirit.

The YMCA School also ensures that all students experience learning away from the stereotype classroom. Students have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of community & volunteer services organized by the YMCA of Singapore. In addition, students participate in learning journeys, fitness programmes, and many other meaningful activities like adventure training camps and co-curricular activities that truly represent the ‘YMCA Experience’. All these activities contribute to the school’s Character and Citizenship Education efforts which place strong emphasis on our core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility. Being in the midst of fellow students from many different countries, the students learn and live the value of Harmony. The total school experience will mould our students’ character even as they experience the discipline and rigour of school life here.

Our 7 air-conditioned classrooms & seminar rooms can accommodate more than 500 students in 2 sessions. There is also a modern café and a lounge cum library that are open to our students. As a youth member of the YMCA, students also enjoy the use of facilities like the swimming pool and gym.
